Lois Steinberg,is an advanced level certified Iyengar Yoga teacher with
over 30 years of yoga study, practice, and teaching experience. The
advanced certificate she holds has been awarded by Guruji to only nine
practitioners in the US. Lois has studied extensively with the Iyengars
in their general and medical classes. She organized the International
Women's Intensive with Geeta S. Iyengar, and is the author of numerous
articles and manuals. Her most recent book, "Geeta's Guide to a Woman's
Yoga Practice", is the first of a two-volume set that provides
comprehensive instruction for the study and practice of Iyengar Yoga.
This inspirational book includes over 850 photographs and detailed notes
on the use of props, positioning, actions, and benefits for each pose.
It is an essential reference for all teachers and serious practitioners.
Lois travels annually for two months' study at the Ramamani Iyengar
Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India.

Ezzealdin Alhilou
At the Ramamani Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India, Ezze was a student in the therapeutics class for a dislocated shoulder under the direct guidance of B.K.S. Iyengar and Geeta S. Iyengar. In 1994 he moved to Urbana where he continued his studies at YICU and started teaching in 2002. Ezze has attended two Iyengar Yoga National Association of the US conferences with senior teachers as well as Geeta S. Iyengar instructing. Ezze is the photographer for most of the photos in the therapeutic booklets and Geeta S. Iyengar’s Guide to a Woman’s Yoga Practice produced by Lois Steinberg. He is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher at the Introductory Level. Ezze teaches all the levels of classes, including yoga for men. |

Barry Chapman
From his first yoga class in 2004, Barry was intrigued with yoga’s ability to bring about physical and physiological change. Once he began a daily practice, he saw that that Iyengar yoga is also a tool for transformation at deeper levels. He began teaching in 2007 and enjoys exploring the benefits of practice with students of all abilities, and especially with seniors. When not practicing yoga, Barry is a physical therapist, working with infants and young children. |

Cherie Earl
In the summer of 2002, Cherie began her studies at the Yoga Institute. She passed the first level of certification through IYNAUS in 2008, and is currently preparing for the level two this fall. Cherie teaches introductory and teens yoga classes at YICU. She also assists in the women’s yoga and therapy classes. Cherie attended the 2007 Iyengar Yoga Convention with Geeta S. Iyengar. Cherie has a background in fine arts and received a BFA in sculpture from the U of I in 2002. Her interest in drawing and modeling from life has taught her observations skills that relate to the teaching of Iyengar yoga. |

Penny Hanna
Since the late 1980s Penny has been studying Iyengar Yoga with Lois Steinberg. Raising two children, full time high school teaching, and graduate school has been the focus of Penny’s life. Now retired from the social studies classroom Penny is devoting more time to learning, practicing and teaching yoga under Lois’ guidance. Penny has attended lectures, workshops, and classes conducted by B.K.S. Iyengar, Geeta Iyengar, Ramanand Patel, Rajiv and Swati Chanchani, Stephanie Quirk, as well as regular study with Lois. Penny instructs an introductory level class, teaches/assists yoga for seniors, and yoga therapeutics. |

Rosemary Mathy
In the 1980s Rosemary bought her first copy, in French, of “Light on Yoga” by B.K.S. Iyengar. Today, as a registered nurse and parent of three children, Rosemary has a unique perspective on the practice, study, and teaching of Iyengar Yoga. She began her studies with Lois in 1998 and is working towards her teacher certification. Rosemary has taught the yoga for seniors, introductory, plus-size, and heart health classes at YICU. She has assisted in the yoga therapeutics, low back, knees, neck and shoulder classes. Rosemary also worked closely with Lois in the low back pain study. In 2001, she studied with Geeta S. Iyengar during the latter’s visit to YICU and at the national convention in Pasadena. Rosemary has also studied with Stephanie Quirk, Rajiv and Swati Chanchani. |
